Stellantis Reports Data Breach in North America

Stellantis said on Sunday that a data breach took place through one of its third-party service providers that helps manage customer service in North America. The company explained that the unauthorized access exposed only basic contact details of customers. It confirmed that no financial information or highly sensitive personal data was affected.

Company Response and Customer Alert

The automaker, which owns Chrysler, said it quickly activated its incident response plan after discovering the breach. Authorities have been informed, and the company has started notifying affected customers directly. Stellantis also asked customers to stay cautious about possible phishing attempts. The company did not reveal the exact number of people affected.

Jaguar Land Rover Faces Major Cyberattack

This incident comes at a time when other global carmakers are also dealing with cyber threats. Earlier in September, Jaguar Land Rover announced that a cyberattack had heavily disrupted its operations. The British carmaker, owned by Tata Motors, shut down its systems to control the breach. As a result, its UK factories stopped production for more than three weeks and will remain closed until 24 September.

Impact on Production and Workforce

Jaguar Land Rover usually produces around one thousand vehicles every day at its three UK plants. Due to the shutdown, thousands of employees from its thirty three thousand strong workforce have been told to stay at home. The company stated that it is carrying out a forensic investigation and preparing for a gradual restart of operations once it is safe.

Growing Cybersecurity Concerns in the Auto Industry

The recent breaches highlight the increasing risks faced by automakers as they depend more on digital systems and external providers. These attacks not only interrupt manufacturing and retail operations but also put customer data at risk.
